Reaching the better standard, higher pay scale, better looks – these are all essentials today. Somewhere along the way we decided that we want it all and what is even more important – we want it now. The world seems to be heading somewhere at uncontrollable speed, and we seem to be enjoying it. Time is money, apparently. Whatever we do, the main concept is to shorten the time needed for something to be done, while getting the maximum results. One of such examples is the project that is currently underway in Vegas.
The Loop
It is no surprises that a project aimed at high speed is associated with one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our time – Elon Musk. This time, it involves The Boring Company. The project includes Tesla electric vehicles, tunnels, and transportation.
You may have heard of it this past summer when it was announced that The Boring Company will do the project of underground tunnels between the McCarran Airport and the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) with stops available at the Wynn Encore and Resorts World.
This underground transportation system is reportedly worth $52.5 million and should shorten a 15-minute walk to a minute ride. Think about it, as we would love to hear your thoughts on how much your 15 minutes are worth.
The Opposition to the Project
Back in June when the media covered the story, taxi drivers purportedly expressed resentment. Namely, the Loop was financed by the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) – a government agency.
On the other hand, the passengers would need to pay between $3 and $5 for a ride to trips to Encore and Resorts World, while the Convention Center Loop ride would be free.
Taxis claimed that they would lose the significant number of clients riding to the airport and back. Therefore, the Las Vegas taxi industry reportedly lobbied against the project.
It May Not All Be Over Yet
The corporations have the tendency of swallowing smaller players, especially when big money is concerned. However, it seems that the Boring Company still has a lot of work to do and we will see how the project unfolds.
The latest media coverage reports that according to the safety standards, the self-driving Tesla vehicles can transport 800 passengers per hour. This is below the original demand of 4,400 passengers per hour. The thing is that the LVCC hosts events of 100,000 people and it would take too much time for the center to fill in at that speed and fluctuation.
The Boring Company should reportedly pay fines if not being able to fulfil the demands. Nevertheless, it seems the matter has been resolved and the project is expanding to take over the transportation route to the LV Stadium.
The Final Word on Time and Money
Time is money, as we all know. However, sometimes, this may not be the case. This is a completely personal opinion from the author of this text. With full support for the development of the Tesla electric vehicles, I must say that sometimes a walk can be beneficial. Especially a 15-minute walk. For me, shortening the transportation time makes sense when we cut from an hour to 10 or 15 minutes, for example. But that is just me.
Also, since the Loop project expanded and will eventually encompass more stops and longer routes, its purpose will certainly be fulfilled.
On the other hand, I cannot but ask myself – in what way we value our time. Time is money, but how much does it cost? Is it worth $3, $5, a million that you can potentially earn in a casino? What is the price of those 15 minutes? If not being able to take a 15-minute walk, you can do a lot during that time, like playing at the bet safe casino. Put a price on your time. As for me, the opportunity is priceless. Spin the reels!
